Five Reach Double Figures in Women's Basketball Win at Roberts Wesleyan

Rochester, N.Y. - The women's basketball team picked up a 73-52 victory in East Coast Conference play this afternoon at the Vollar Athletic Center against Roberts Wesleyan University. Molloy improved to 6-5 on the season and an even 1-1 in league play while RWU fell to 0-11 (0-4 ECC). 

How it Happened
  • Despite netting the first four points of the contest, the Lions struggled in the opening frame. 
  • The Redhawks responded with a 15-0 run, keeping Molloy off the scoreboard again until the final seconds of the quarter.
  • RWU scored the first basket of the second quarter, but Molloy regrouped and put together a 16-2 run to go in front, 24-19, with 6:40 left in the first half.
  • The home team worked the score back within two, 28-26, with just under three minutes until the break, but a layup from graduate student Danielle Hippner and a three-pointer from junior Sophia Yearwood gave the Lions a 33-26 advantage headed into the locker room.
  • The Redhawks were held to just one shot in the opening two minutes of the third quarter as Molloy extended the lead to 41-26, scoring eight-straight points.
  • The lead would get to as much as 21 with less than three minutes in the quarter, but RWU would score to make it 54-37 headed into the final 10 minutes of play.
  • Molloy led by 20+ for nearly the entire fourth quarter en route to the victory.
Top Performances
  • Junior Rosa Rizzitelli led the squad with 16 points, shooting 7-of-12, while adding six rebounds, five steals, and a block.
  • Senior Samantha Muller had a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, also adding three steals.
  • Junior Casey Campo also notched a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 10 boards. 
  • Hippner and Yearwood each netted 12 points to round out Molloy's top scorers. Hippner matched a career-high four assists and added three blocks.
  • Senior Janel Moore matched a career-high six steals while leading all players with nine assists.
