Vestal, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team traveled north to take on the Bearcats of Binghamton University in an exhibition matchup Friday evening. The Lions fell, 67-40, inside the Events Center.
How it Happened
- After the Lions kicked off the contest with baskets from junior Casey Campo and senior Samantha Muller to take a 4-0 lead, Binghamton netted eight of the games next 12 points to knot the contest at eight with 4:52 to play in the first quarter.
- The home team concluded the first stanza on a 9-4 run to take a 17-12 advantage into the second quarter.
- The cardinal and white would see junior Colleen McCullagh, senior Danielle Hippner and Muller combine for 13 points to bring the Lions within one, 26-25, with 4:35 left in the first half.
- Junior Sophia Yearwood would bring the contest back to all square, 28-28, following a three-point basket with under four minutes to go.
- After trading baskets, senior Janel Moore would drain a three to send the Lions into halftime behind, 32-31.
- The Bearcats stared the second half on a 9-3 run to open a seven-point lead, 41-34, with 5:25 remaining in the third quarter.
- Molloy would stay within seven for the remainder of the stanza and go into the fourth quarter behind, 46-39.
- Binghamton would outscore Molloy 21-1 in the final quarter and half the Lions without a field goal en route to the victory, 67-40.
Top Performances
- McCullagh and Muller paced the squad netting 12 points apiece.
- Campo and Hippner led the Lions on the glass grabbing six rebounds each.
- Moore dished out a team-high five assists.
