Flushing, N.Y. – For the third time in the last four seasons, the fifth-seeded Molloy men's soccer team will play for the East Coast Conference Championship, after defeating the top-seeded Knights of Queens College, 3-1, Sunday evening at Knights Field. With the victory, the Lions improve to 8-7-4 while the Mavericks end the season, 11-5-2.
How it Happened
- The opening 10 minutes proved to be a feeling out period as both squads could not muster a shot.
- Queens got its first chance of the game in the 12th minute with a shot that went wide of target.
- Seven minutes later, the Knights would create its second consecutive chance, but once again it would not reach target.
- The Lions made the most of his first shot of the game in the 30th minute. Freshman Charlie Morgan took a free kick just inside of midfield, sent it into the 18-yard box, and found the head of sophomore Mathew Broadhead who put it into the back of the net to give Molloy a 1-0 advantage.
- Four minutes later, Queens looked for the equalizer with a shot coming from Andrew Johnson, but freshman goalkeeper Callum Hunt made the save to keep Molloy ahead.
- In the 37th minute Queens forward Harry Cooke looked to knot the contest at one, but Hunt would make the denial.
- The Lions final chance of the opening half came in the 39th minute with a shot from junior Matt Star that was saved, sending the contest into halftime with Molloy in front, 1-0.
- 3:43 into the second half, freshman Charlie Morgan created space to his right and fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Lions two-goal lead, 2-0.
- The two-goal lead was short lived for the Lions, as the Knights cut the deficit to one, 2-1, 1:07 later off a header from Harry Cooke.
- 10 minutes would go by until the next chance for either squad. Sophomre Wilmer Flores was able to get the ball on his left foot and fire a shot that was denied by Queens goalkeeper Thanasis Shehadeh.
- In the 70th minute the Lions won a corner kick. Morgan sent the curling pass into the box and found the head of sophomore Steph Maurice to knocked it in to give the Lions a two-goal cushion, 3-1.
- In the final 20 minutes of action Hunt would be tested facing five shots with three coming on target, but the freshman would pass the test while making three saves to solidify the victory, 3-1, and clinch a spot in the ECC Final.

- Morgan netted a goal and handed out two assists to collect four points.
- Broadhead and Maurice netted a goal apiece.
- In goal, Hunt made five saves.
