Field Hockey Earns First Conference Win with 2-0 Shutout Over Franklin Pierce

Seaford, N.Y.- The field hockey team secured its first NE10 victory since 2019 with a 2-0 shutout against Franklin Pierce this afternoon at Cedar Creek Park. The win improves the Lions' record to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in NE10 play, while the Ravens drop to 1-10, 1-5 in the conference.

How it Happened
  • The Lions came out strong, earning two corners and firing two shots in the opening quarter.
  • Junior Gianna Mastrocco broke the stalemate in the 19th minute, netting her first goal of the season and giving Molloy a 1-0 lead.
  • Freshman goalie Kayla Balsamo made three saves in the second quarter to preserve the lead heading into halftime.
  • Molloy doubled its lead when sophomore Catherine Amini tapped in a cross from senior Devin Harkins following a corner in the fourth frame.
  • The Ravens applied pressure late in the fourth quarter with two corners, but Balsamo denied both shots she faced, securing her first career shutout.

  • Mastrocco led the offense, scoring her first goal of the season on four shots, all on net.
  • Balsamo finished with six saves in net.
  • Sophomore Farah Amarando contributed three shots, while Harkins and junior Dayanna Ortiz-More each added two.
  • Harkins dished out a career-high two assists.
  • Amini, along with seniors Bella Bigeni and Aly Anderson, junior Nikki Longhitano, and freshman Mia Babino, each recorded a shot.
