Rockville Centre, N.Y. – In a rematch of last season's East Coast Championship Final, the Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Wildcats of Daemen University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improve to 3-4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Wildcats move to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in league play.
How it Happened
- 5:17 into the contest, Daemen created a chance as forward Kylie Miranto looked to score, but the attempt was wide of target.
- 20 minutes would go by before the next chance of the contest, once again coming from the Wildcats, but the attempt was saved by sophomore Elyse Muñoz.
- Molloy had its first chance of the game in the 26th minute when senior Alessandra Borsellino had her shot blocked.
- A minute later, sophomore Isabella Muro created space with a bending shot to the right corner that forced Daemen goalkeeper Becca Schultz to make a save.
- The next shot on target came in the 42nd minute, but Muñoz denied the chance.
- The Lions last opportunity came with two minutes to go in the half when freshman Jana Strait looked to score, but her shot was saved.
- With 15 seconds to go in the first half, Daemen tried one last chance to crack the scoreboard, but Muñoz once again would make a save to send the contest into halftime scoreless.
- Entering the second half, the Lions earned a free kick in the 52nd minute. Borsellino was the shooter and her shot was blocked by the defense.
- Three minutes later, Muro made a run down the middle of the field, created space, and fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to put Molloy in front, 1-0.
- The cardinal and white continued its pressure over the next 10 minutes in search of a second goal. The Lions totaled five shots in the 10-minute span, two were saved, two were blocked, and one went wide of target keeping the contest at 1-0.
- In the 75th minute, Daemen midfielder Magna Carpenter looked for the equalizer, but her shot would be saved.
- Still searching for its insurance goal, Molloy created four chances in a 2:04 span from 82:25 through 84:29. Two shots were blocked, but attempts from Muro and graduate student Emma Beattie hit the cross bar and was saved, keeping the contest tight, 1-0.
- The best chance of the afternoon and the play of the game occurred in the 87th minute. Daemen forward Alyssa Diaz broke free of the Molloy back line and had a break away looking to tie the contest.
- Coming off of her line, Muñoz met Diaz halfway into the 18-yard box and denied the shot, solidifying the victory for the Lions, 1-0.

- Muro netted her second goal of the season while leading the squad with six shots and three shots on goal.
- Freshman Sarah Cavallo totaled five shots with two coming on goal.
- In goal, Muñoz made six saves to pick up her second shutout of the season.
