Field Hockey Falls Short in 2-0 Loss Against Bentley

Seaford, N.Y.- The field hockey team faced a narrow 2-0 defeat to Bentley University this afternoon at Cedar Creek Park. The Lions drop to 1-8 on the season and 0-5 in conference play, and the Falcons improve to 5-5 overall and 4-1 in NE10 play.
 
How it Happened
  • The Lions came out strong, out-shooting Bentley 5-2 in the opening frame.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Balsamo stood tall early on, making five saves in the first three minutes, including a huge diving stop on a shot from Lida Coco to keep the game scoreless.
  • Bentley broke the stalemate just before halftime when Hannah Blomquist found the back of the net in the final seconds of the second quarter, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
  • The cardinal and white held strong, fending off three consecutive corners late in the third frame.
  • Bentley sealed the win in the fourth quarter when Meagan Hayes scored off a feed from Libby Harrison following a corner to extend its lead to 2-0.
