Oceanside, N.Y.- The women's tennis suffered a 6-1 defeat in a conference matchup against the University of the District of Columbia this afternoon. The Lions fall to 1-8 (0-2 ECC) while the Firebirds remain undefeated, improving to 4-0 (3-0 ECC).

In doubles play, senior Elena Baughman Saunders and freshman Erin Sanchez battled hard in the top spot but ultimately fell 6-3.  Sophomores Alice Fartushynska and Isabella Fortaleza claimed a set in their 6-1 loss to Claudia Bahamn Lopez and Celia Bastin.
 
In singles, Baughman Saunders delivered the Lions' only point, securing a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Parn in the top spot. Fortaleza claimed three sets in her loss to Bahamn Lopez, 6-3, 6-0, while Sanchez was able to win two in hers. Freshmen Ashley Bonilla and Taylor Gunnip added to the effort, taking one set each in their respective matches.

The Lions are back on the road for a conference matchup against Daemen University on Friday (Oct. 11) at 7:00 p.m.
