Sparkill, N.Y.- The field hockey team secured its second conference win of the season this afternoon, edging out St. Thomas Aquinas with a 3-2 win at Spartans Field. The win improves the Lions' record to 3-13 (2-10 NE10), while the Spartans drop to 4-13 (3-9 NE10).
How it Happened
- St. Thomas Aquinas struck early, scoring within the first two minutes to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Lions had six corner opportunities within a two-minute span, allowing junior Gianna Mastrocco to find the back of the net off a pass from senior Devin Harkins, tying the game at 1-1 in the first quarter.
- Freshman Molly Walton then set up Mastrocco for a second goal, putting Molloy up 2-1 as the Lions headed into halftime.
- Freshman goalie Kayla Balsamo made two saves to keep the Spartans off the board in the third frame.
- Harkins extended the Lions' lead to 3-1 on a successful penalty stroke.
- St. Thomas Aquinas' Hailey Galison responded a minute later, narrowing the gap to 3-2.
- Balsamo secured the victory for Molloy with another save in the last few minutes of play.
