Field Hockey Concludes 2024 Season with Narrow 1-0 Loss to New Haven

Seaford, N.Y.- The field hockey team wrapped up its 2024 season with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to the University of New Haven this afternoon at Cedar Creek Park. The defeat leaves the Lions with a final record of 3-14 (2-11 NE10), while the Chargers finish at 8-10 (7-6 NE10).

Before the contest, the program recognized Aly Anderson (education), Devin Harkins (nursing), Bella Bigeni (education), and Gianna-Marie Festa (business management) in a senior day ceremony.
 
How it Happened
  • Sophomore Kayla Lipscomb started in goal and recorded two saves in the opening quarter.
  • Harkins nearly put the Lions on the board early in the second quarter with a penalty stroke, but her shot deflected off the post.
  • The Lions had two corner opportunities a minute apart, with Harkins managing a shot on net that was saved by the Chargers' goalkeeper Cara Lambert.
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Balsamo made four saves in the third quarter to keep the Chargers scoreless.
  • Junior Gianna Mastrocco had a chance to give the Lions the lead in the third frame but was denied by Lambert.
  • New Haven's Johannah Lee scored the game's only goal in the 53rd minute of play, assisted by Kat Trammel.
  • Balsamo added one more save in the final minute to keep the deficit at one.
 
Top Performances
  • Harkins and Mastrocco led the offense taking two shots each, all of which were on net.
  • Balsamo finished with five saves in goal.
  • Lipscomb added two saved in net.
