Buffalo, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team traveled to Dobson Field to pick up a 3-0 victory over the Saints of D'Youville University Saturday afternoon. The Lions improve to 5-4-1 overall and 3-0 in East Coast Conference play, while the Saints move to 0-8-2 overall and 0-4 in league play.
How it Happened
- The Lions wasted no time, finding the back of the net 7:10 into the contest. Junior Mikaela Barriga received a through ball into the right of the 18-yard box and crossed it to find freshman Jana Strait to take a 1-0 lead.
- Over the next 18 minutes of action Molloy continued its pressure, totaling five shots with two coming on target, but none could find the back of the net.
- D'Youville would garner two shots in the opening half coming in the 28th and 41st minute, but neither would find target. The game would be sent into halftime with Molloy ahead, 1-0.
- 18 minutes into the second half the Saints looked for the equalizer, but a shot attempt from Ella Hurrle would miss the frame.
- In the 72nd minute, the Lions would net its second goal. Similarly to the last contest against Bridgeport, senior Alessandra Borsellino took a free kick sent it into the box and found the head of sophomore Madison Keenan who finished to increase the Lions lead, 2-0.
- The cardinal and white sealed the contest in the 75th minute. After winning a corner kick, Keenan flicked in a header that found the foot of junior Olivia Ingenito who buried the goal.
- The Lions would allow one shot for the remainder of the contest, that would not land on goal and would go on to win the contest, 3-0.
Top Performances
- Keenan netted her second goal of the season and dished out an assist.
- Strait and Ingenito netted a goal each.
- In goal, sophomore Elyse Muñoz was not forced to make a save and picked up her third shutout of the season.
