Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team saw its five-game win streak come to an end, as they fell to the Wildcats of Daemen University, 60-50, Friday evening inside Lumsen Gymnasium. The Lions move to 8-9 overall and 3-4 in East Coast Conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 11-5 overall and 6-1 in league play.
How it Happened
- The teams traded baskets over the first 5:11 of the contest, with the Lions answering every basket the Wildcats put up. The score was tied at nine midway through the opening stanza.
- Daemen completed the first quarter with a 7-3 run to take a 16-12 lead into the second quarter.
- Sophomore Colleen McCullagh opened the second stanza with a jumper to bring Molloy within two, 16-14.
- The Wildcats extended its lead to six with 8:00 left in the first half, but sophomore Rosa Rizzitelli drained a three to keep the Lions within one possession, 20-17, with 7:37 to go in the second quarter.
- Four minutes would go by with each team draining one basket apiece, a layup from graduate student Isabel Sanchez kept the Lions within three, 22-19, with under four minutes to play in the first half.
- The Wildcats concluded the second with a 6-2 run to extend its lead to seven, 28-21, heading into halftime.
- After Daemen began the second half with a three-point field goal, the Lions put together a 12-2 run on the back of points from four different scorers. Junior Janel Moore netted five points, junior Samantha Muller sank a three-point field goal, and junior Danielle Hippner and graduate student Isabel Sanchez sank a layup each to bring the contest all square at 33 with 4:44 to go in the third quarter.
- The Wildcats responded with a mini 5-0 run to regain control of the contest, 38-33, with under three minutes to go in the third stanza.
- Hudson and Hipper answered with layups to bring the cardinal and white within one, 38-37, and would trail, 40-37, heading into the fourth quarter.
- The Wildcats began the fourth with a three-point play, but it was answered by Muller with a three-point field goal to keep Molloy within three, 43-40, with over eight minutes to go.
- Over the next four minutes of action, the home team gained the momentum and rallied to an 11-3 run to open its largest lead of the game, 54-43, with under four minutes left.
- The home team would not allow the Lions to get within more than eight for the remainder of the contest and would go on to solidify the victory, 60-50.

- Hudson collected her seventh straight double-double totaling 10 points and securing a game-high 10 rebounds.
