West Haven, Conn. – The Molloy field hockey team fell to the Chargers of the Unveristy of New Haven, 6-1, Tuesday evening at DellaCamera Stadium. Molloy moves to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in league play, while the Chargers improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Northeast-10 play.
How it Happened
- New Haven notched the first chance of the evening with 2:47 on the clock, but junior Kelsey Price made a save.
- The home team found the back of the net three minutes later to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Chargers would hold Molloy to one shot in the first quarter and conclude the stanza on a 3-0 run to take a 4-0 lead heading into the second.
- Five minutes into the second quarter, New Haven tacked on to its lead to take a 5-0 advantage.
- The Lions swarmed the Chargers front in the final two minutes of the half, sophomore Devin Harkins had a shot blocked and junior Kassandra Sakhat had her shot blocked.
- Molloy converted shortly after as sophomore Gianna Mastrocco netted her first goal of the season to bring Molloy within four, 5-1, heading into halftime.
- Coming out of halftime, the Lions offense continued to put pressure on New Haven as they generated four shots in the stanza and held the Chargers to one. But a pair of saves by New Haven goalie Cara Lambert kept Molloy behind, 5-1, heading into the fourth.
- The home team would go on to score one more goal in the final stanza and hold the Lions to one total shot and clinch the victory, 6-1.
