Rockville, Centre, N.Y. - The Molloy men's soccer team opened up conference play this afternoon, falling to the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 4-0, at John A. Darcy Field. Molloy moves to 1-4-1 overall and 0-1 in East Coast Conference play, while the Spartans imporves to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.
How it Happened
- The opening 30 minutes of the contest, was a feeling out process for both teams, as neither team was able to generate a shot on target. Both back lines were playing stout, blocking a pair of shots each.
- Freshman Harvey Chahal put the first shot on target in the 31st minute, but was saved by the Spartans goalkeeper.
- After a pair of shots that went high, the road team had its best chance to score in the 35th minute. Forward Kevon Evans was able to create space and blasted a shot of the crossbar, sending the game into halftime scoreless.
- St. Thomas Aquinas continued its pressure in the opening two minutes of the second half. Yahir Hernandez sent one off the right post and graduate student Dennis Mejia made a save to keep the game without a score.
- Freshman Matt Star had a chance off a corner with a header at the back post, but the attempt was stopped.
- Seconds later, the Spartans found the back of the net getting in behind Mejia to take a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.
- Five minutes of action would go by when St. Thomas Aquinas would garner its second goal, following an own goal to pull ahead, 2-0.
- The Lions looked to cut the lead in half in the 66th minute when freshman Steph Maurice found space, but his opportunity was denied to keep Molloy off the scoreboard.
- St. Thomas Aquinas would hold the Lions to two shots, both that were blocked in the final 24 minutes and net goals in the 82nd and 89th minute to end the contest victorious, 4-0.

- Freshman Matthew Broadhead tallied two shots.
