Field Hockey Falls in Season Opener

Seaford, N.Y. - The field hockey team opened the 2023 season in non-conference action against the Panthers of Adelphi University, falling by a score of 6-1. 

How it Happened
  • The Panthers were quick to get on the board with Faith Dillon burying a feed from Emiline Biggin just two minutes into the contest.
  • Amanda Lee doubled the lead after carrying the ball nearly 70 yards down the field to score.
  • Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Price made a goal-saving kick save off a penalty corner in the final five minutes of the first quarter, but Kelly Johnson gave Adelphi the 3-0 lead.
  • A penalty stroke goal from Lee in the final 15 seconds rounded out the score at 4-0 after the opening frame.
  • The Lions came out firing in the second quarter, putting up three shots in the first minute of play, including three from sophomore Madi Stuckart.
  • The sophomore's efforts paid off in the final three minutes of the quarter, finding the back of the net for her first career goal.
  • Molloy won the possession battle in the third quarter and outshot the Panthers 8-5. 
  • Ali Nagy would net two goals in the final 15 minutes for Adelphi to round out the scoring. 
Top Performances
  • Stuckart and junior Devin Harkins each put up a career-high four shots while freshman Lauren Brodowsky had three in her collegiate debut. 
  • Senior Alexa Denis and junior Bella Bigeni each took two shots.
  • Sophomore Lizzy Hedgecock made a defensive save to keep a goal off the board.
  • In net, Price made 13 saves, including seven in the final quarter.
