Akemi Poyer, the softball team split a doubleheader series with the Saints of D'Youville University to improve to 21-12 on the season and 8-1 in East Coast Conference play.
The Lions held a Hit-a-Thon to benefit ovarian cancer throughout the game, raising money with the teams' combined 24 hits to the American Cancer Society.
Game One: D'Youville 7, Molloy 3
- Senior Steph Conrade singled to start the home half of the first inning before stealing second and advancing to third on a ground out from Burns.
- Senior Karsyn Eaton's infield single scored the center fielder to put Molloy in front, 1-0.
- Two fielding errors and a single from junior Katie Hand loaded the bases for freshman Emily McGurk in the fourth inning. The short stop put a single through the left side to double Molloy's lead.
- A single and fielding error set the table for the Saints to take a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on a three-run home run for Hannah Bardeen.
- The visitors' offense exploded in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs on four singles, a hit by pitch and double to lead, 7-2.
- Burns tallied her third home run in as many games in the home half of the inning, but that was as close as Molloy would come, dropping its first league contest of the season.
- Burns went 3-for-4 at the plate with the home run and a stolen base.
- Hand and McGurk each went 2-for-3 with Eaton and Conrade also adding hits for the Lions.
- Graduate student Amanda King went 6.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out six batters.
Game Two: Molloy 3, D'Youville 0
- With just one hit through the first two and a half innings, the Lions were once again the first to score. Freshman Mae Savage doubled down the left field line before moving to third on an infield ground out from senior Emma Bachman.
- Conrade drove in the run with an infield single before scoring on a double from Burns to put Molloy ahead, 2-0.
- Poyer hit her third home run of the season in the fourth inning to increase the lead to three.
- The Saints were sat down in order in the fifth and six innings. The visitors had a runner on third in the top of the seventh, but junior Brianna Macias forced a ground out to earn her eighth win of the season.
- Macias struck out a season-high eight batters in a three-hit, no walk shutout.
- The Lions recorded four hits, including doubles from both Burns and Savage.
