Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team split a doubleheader with #25 Wilmington University this afternoon, topping the Wildcats 7-2 before falling 2-1. Molloy sits at 25-16 on the season after the contests while Wilmington sits at 32-12.
Before the game, the program recognized its three members of the senior class:
Akemi Poyer (biology),
Karsyn Eaton (nursing), and
Amanda King (marketing) in a senior day ceremony.
Game One: Molloy 7, Wilmington 2
- Wilmington scored in the first inning, taking advantage of a single, stolen base, and walk before Haley Downin singled up the middle to plate the game's first run.
- Molloy got even in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run from senior Karsyn Eaton, who pulled the ball over the right center field fence on the first pitch she saw.
- Seniors Amanda King and Steph Conrade singled to the left side to start the bottom of the third inning before a fielder's choice from junior Chrissie Huhn loaded the bases. Junior Katie Hand drove in King on a fielder's choice to double Molloy's lead.
- With runners on first and third, freshman Emily McGurk singled up the middle to set the score at 3-1.
- Eaton and McGurk would reach base in the fifth inning, scoring on a double down the left field line from sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme to give the Lions the 5-1 lead.
- Two walks and an error loaded the bases for the Wildcats in the sixth inning, scoring on a pinch hit RBI fielder's choice from Tristyn Stewart.
- In the bottom half of the inning, three-straight singles to King, Conrade, and Huhn put Molloy in front 6-2 before McGurk drove in her second run of the contest with an infield single to round out the scoring.
- McGurk and Dusharme topped the squad with two RBI with McGurk (3-for-4) and King (3-for-3) leading with three hits.
- King tossed a complete game to improve to 11-9 on the season, allowing just one earned run.
Game Two: Wilmington 2, Molloy 1
- The second game proved to be a pitcher's duel between junior Brianna Macias and Kylee Gunkel, with the teams combining for just 10 baserunners in the whole contest.
- After combining for just four hits through the first five innings of play, the Wildcats got on the board with a two-run home run from Sara Miller in the top of the sixth inning.
- Sophomore Natalie Moussa entered the circle in relief to record the last out of the sixth inning, forcing a pop up on her second pitch. The California native sent the Wildcats down in order in the top of the seventh.
- Hand had a solo home run to start the home half of the seventh inning to bring Molloy within one, but the next three Lions would be retired to earn Wilmington the victory.
- Conrade led the team with two hits while Hand and senior Emma Bachman accounted for the remaining two.
- Macias went 5.2 in the loss, striking out one while Moussa fanned one in 1.1 innings of relief.

Molloy will host Saint Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday (Apr. 25) at 3:00 p.m. The teams will resume the game from April 4 in the ninth inning before playing the reguarly scheduled doubleheader.
