Niagara University, N.Y. – Behind a complete game from graduate student
Brian Morrisey, the Molloy baseball team topped the Saints of D'Youville University, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at BoBo Field. The Lions improve to 28-14 overall and 15-5 in ECC play, while the Saint move to 15-21 overall and 7-9 in league play.
How it Happened
- Molloy jumped out in front 1-0 in the first inning following an RBI single from junior Aidan Larkin.
- Scoreless baseball ensued over the next three innings as both starters settled in and kept both teams off the scoreboard.
- The Lions broke through in the fifth, junior Anthony Manisero singled home a run and a second run came around to score following an error to extend the Molloy lead, 3-0.
- The cardinal and white added onto its lead in the sixth when junior Matt Yip recorded a sacrifice fly to give Molloy a 4-0 lead.
- The road team added a fifth run in the eighth, graduate student Robby Keane singled to score Manisero giving the Lions a 5-0 advantage.
- An additional insurance run would come off the bat of junior Gavin McAlonie who singled to extend the Lions lead to 6-0.
- D'Youville would add a run in the ninth to prevent a shutout, but the Lions would clinch the victory, 6-1.
Top Performances
- Morrisey tossed a complete game allowing one run on six hits and struck out a season-high eight batters to improve to 6-2 on the campaign.
- Keane, sophomore JJ DeVito, and graduate student Jake McCarthy collected two hits each.
- Manisero, McAlonie, and Larkin totaled a hit and RBI each.
