Women's Lacrosse Falls in Triple OT at Roberts Wesleyan

Rochester, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team dropped its first league contest of the season and snapped a record-setting 11 game win streak this afternoon in a heartbreaking triple overtime loss at Roberts Wesleyan University, 13-12. Molloy sits at 11-4 on the season and 5-1 in East Coast Conference play while the Redhawks improved to 10-5 (4-1 ECC) in a contest that will have massive implications on the ECC Championship seeding.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Alexa Amorison netted the first two goals of the game to put Molloy in front.
  • The Redhawks responded by scoring three in a row before sophomore Megan Rugolo ended the first quarter with a goal of her own to knot the contest at three.
  • The teams traded goals throughout the entirety of the second quarter, including each finding the back of the net in the final 20 seconds to keep the game tied, 7-7, at the halftime break.
  • Junior Kelly Bergersen scored on a woman-up opportunity five minutes into the third period to break the tie, but the Redhawks converted on a woman-up opportunity of their own in the final two minutes of the quarter, leaving the teams tied once again headed into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
  • Junior Amanda Weber and Rugolo were the first two score in the fourth quarter, but RWU responded with back-to-back goals.
  • Rugolo would score each of Molloy's final three goals, but each time the Redhawks would be able to answer, including scoring with 33 seconds left to force the overtime period.
  • The Lions outshot the home team in each of the three overtime periods, but were unable to get one past Natalie Arieno before Emma Blumenstock won it for the Redhawks in the final 28 seconds of the third overtime.
