Niagara University, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Saints of D'Youville University, 13-2, Saturday afternoon at Bobo Field. The Lions improve to 27-14 overall and 14-5 in ECC play, while the Saints move to 15-20 overall and 7-8 in league play.
How it Happened
- Molloy wasted no time, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning following RBI singles from junior Gavin McAlonie and graduate student Jake McCarthy.
- Graduate student Mike Andreoli kept the Saints hitters off balance throwing three no-hit innings to begin the contest.
- In the top of the fifth, junior Aidan Larkin extended the Lions' lead to four, 4-0, ripping a two-RBI double down the left field line.
- D'Youville broke the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame following a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.
- The home team continued to fight its way back in the sixth, when Ethan Hammond singled home a run to cut the lead in half, 4-2, after six innings of action.
- The cardinal and white broke the game open in the eighth rallying to nine runs in the frame. Graduate student Robby Keane drove an RBI single, sophomore JJ DeVito scored a pair following a double, junior Garrett Scavelli brought home two runs with a single, a run scored on a fielder's choice, and freshman Sean Welsh capped the inning with a three-run home run to give Molloy a commanding 13-2 lead.
- D'Youville would plate a run in the ninth, but the Lions would come out victorious, 13-3.
Top Performances
- Graduate student Mike Andreoli pitched seven innings allowing six hits and two runs while striking out five to improve to 6-0 on the campaign.
- Welsh tallied two hits including his first career home run and drove in three.
- DeVito, McAlonie, and Larkin totaled two hits and two RBIs each.
- Senior Nicholas Incalcaterra threw the final two frames giving up one run on one hit and striking out two.
