Men's Lacrosse Sets Single-Game Goal, Assist, Point Records in Senior Day Topping of UDC

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team dominated from the opening whistle of this afternoon's 30-4 victory over the University of the District of Columbia, setting single-game program records in goals (30), assists (19), and points (49). Molloy improved to 9-7 on the season and 4-1 in East Coast Conference play in the victory while UDC fell to 0-9 (0-5 ECC).

The team honored graduating members Jordan Arbouet (nursing), Angelo DeLuca (finance), Ryan Downing (accounting), Scott Capicchioni (accounting), Edward McCann IV (finance), Sean Plasencia (biology/pre-allied health), and Ryan O'Neill (pre-allied health) in a pre-game ceremony.

How it Happened
  • Senior Sean Plasencia and sophomore Mike D'Amato opened the scoring in the first two minutes before Dylan Donaldson put the Firebirds on the board on a man-up opportunity.
  • The next 13 goals would come off the sticks of Molloy players, including two from freshman Justin Palulis, junior Mikey Rodin, and sophomore Ryan Polehinke to make it 15-1 before the Firebirds broke the streak.
  • The opening half would end with goals from Polehinke, sophomore Patrick Dempsey, and junior Adam Hyman to set the score at 18-2 at the half.
  • Molloy would score six in the third quarter before UDC netted its third of the contest. Freshman Brandon Pazienza, Dempsey, and Downing each scored in a two minute span to put the home team in front 27-3 headed into the final 15 minutes.
  • Donaldson scored his second of the game to open the fourth frame but the final three goals were scored by the Lions to earn the definitive victory.
Top Performances
  • Senior Ryan Downing matched a career-high nine points on three goals and six assists.
  • Polehinke (four goals, three assists), Dempsey (five goals, one assist), Rodin (five goals), and Palulis (three goals, two assists) all had career-setting performances.
  • Plasencia and Hyman each tallied four points.
  • Pazienza had his first multi-point performance with two goals.
  • Junior Denver Tveter led with eight ground balls while forcing two turnovers.
  • Senior Edward McCann IV and junior Liam Linden each led with five caused turnovers. McCann scooped up six ground balls while Linden added five.
  • Plasencia forced three turnovers to go with five ground balls.
  • Pazienza and graduate student Angelo DeLuca each went 6-of-13 on face-offs and picked up two ground balls while freshman James Franz went 4-of-11 with three ground balls.
  • Sophomore Christian Michaels made four saves in the win while freshman John Basile made three stops in relief.
