Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The softball team returned to East Coast Conference action this afternoon at Smith Field against the Mavericks of Mercy College, splitting a doubleheader. The Lions sit at 24-15 on the season and 11-2 in league play after this afternoon.
Game One: Mercy 5, Molloy 4
- Four singles and a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first inning put the home Mavericks ahead, 2-0.
- The lead would double in the second inning on an RBI triple and RBI double.
- A leadoff homerun in the fourth inning put Mercy ahead, 5-0.
- Junior Chrissie Huhn doubled in the top of the fifth before being driven in by junior Katie Hand to put Molloy on the board.
- After recorded two outs to start the bottom of the fifth, two singles and an error loaded the bases for Mercy, but sophomore reliever Natalie Moussa worked out of the jam and kept the Lions within four.
- The bats went to work for Molloy in the sixth inning, sparking a comeback. Sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme hit an infield single to start the inning before stealing second and moving over to third on an infield single from freshman Mae Savage.
- Senior Akemi Poyer drove in Dusharme with a pinch-hit double before senior Steph Conrade cleared the bases with a single to right field to bring Molloy within one, 5-4.
- The Lions were unable to knot the score in the seventh inning, giving Mercy the win.
- Dusharme went 3-for-4 at the plate with a stolen base. Conrade led with two RBI in a 2-for-4 afternoon with a stolen base.
- Huhn and freshman Emily McGurk each went 2-for-4.
- Moussa struck out five in 5.1 innings of work.
Game Two: Molloy 7, Mercy 2
- The Mavericks also struck first to start the second contest, leading 1-0 after two innings with an RBI single.
- Conrade singled in the third inning before a single from Huhn and fielding miscues from the home team allowed the speedy Conrade to score. Huhn was brought home by a single from Hand to give Molloy its first lead of the game, 2-1.
- Mercy would tied the contest in the fifth inning on a double.
- For the second-straight game, Molloy's bats came to life in the sixth inning, plating five runs on seven hits. A single from Savage and double from Poyer set senior Karsyn Eaton up for an RBI infield single to regain the lead for the Lions.
- Conrade singled through the left side to make it 4-2 before Huhn drove in two in a single to center field. The scoring was rounded out with a single to left field to make it 7-2.
- Macias would retire six of the final seven batters to earn her ninth win, striking out three and allowing just one earned run.
- Huhn and Hand each drove in two runs and went 3-for-4 at the plate with Huhn stealing a bag. McGurk also had a 3-for-4 afternoon with a triple.
- Conrade, Savage, and Poyer each went 2-for-4.
