McAlonie’s Walk-Off Inside The Park Home Run Leads Baseball to DH Sweep of CSI

Staten Island, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team picked up two wins over the College of Staten Island (12-3 and 8-7) Sunday afternoon at CSI Baseball Complex. Molloy improved to 18-10 overall and 6-1 in ECC play, while the Dolphins moved to 8-14 overall and 2-5 in league play.
 
Game One: Molloy 12, CSI 3
  • The Lions jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning. Junior Garrett Scavelli tripled home a run and junior Aidan Larkin singled home Scavelli.
  • CSI ran off three consecutive runs, with single runs scoring in the first, second, and third to take a 3-2 lead after three innings of play.
  • Molloy responded in the fourth inning, junior Gavin McAlonie reached base via an error that brought home a run, graduate student Robby Keane recorded a sacrifice fly, and sophomore Tom Lebrecht singled to score the third run off the inning to put the Lions in front, 5-3.
  • A pair of run scoring singles from graduate student Chris Peralta and McAlonie extended the Molloy lead to 7-3 in the fifth inning.
  • The cardinal and white capped game one with a five-run ninth inning to solidify the victory, 12-3.
  • Graduate student Mike Andreoli tossed six innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five to move to 5-0 on the season.
  • Senior Nicholas Incalcaterra pitched the final three innings only yielding one hit and whiffing six hitters.
  • Lebrecht collected three hits and three RBIs.
  • Peralta totaled three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs.
  • McAlonie added three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Game Two: Molloy 8, CSI 7
  • CSI began game two with a three-run top of the first to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Molloy got one run back in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to two, 3-1.
  • The Dolphins tallied a run in the second and two in the fourth to open its largest lead of the afternoon, 6-1.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, graduate student Jake McCarthy and McAlonie singled home a run each to cut the lead in half, 6-3, after four innings of play.
  • In the following inning, junior Anthony Manisero reached on an error and a run crossed the plate to trim the deficit to two, 6-4.
  • CSI got one run back in the top of the seventh to take a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
  • Needing three runs to force extra innings, the cardinal and white put together a three-run bottom of the seventh. Manisero singled home a run, McCarthy followed suit with an RBI single, and Peralta capped the inning with a game-tying sacrifice fly to knot the contest at seven to send it to extra innings.
  • After two innings of scoreless baseball, McAlonie connected with a line drive that cleared the center fielder and went all the way to the fence. The junior rounded the bases and slid home headfirst to end the game with a walk-off inside the park home run.
  • Graduate student Brian Morrisey threw seven innings allowing 12 hits, seven runs (five earned), and struck out four.
  • Senior Richard Gennaro pitched the last three innings allowing one hit and striking out four to pick up the win to move to 1-1 on the season.
  • Manisero led the team with three hits.
  • McCarthy totaled two hits and two RBIs.
  • McAlonie his first career walk-off hit and his second home run of the season.
