Baseball Stumbles to Felician

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team fell to the Golden Falcons of Felician University, 12-9, Tuesday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Lions move to 7-4, while the Golden Falcons improve to 5-8.
 
How it Happened
  • Felician took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second following a solo home run and an RBI double.
  • The away team added a third run in the sixth to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • Molloy cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth, sophomore JJ DeVito blasted his first career home run to cut the deficit to two, 3-1.
  • The Golden Falcons tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh to open the lead to 5-1.
  • In the bottom of the frame, DeVito tripled into the right field corner to score sophomore Tom Lebrecht and junior Mat Yip to bring the Lions within two, 5-3.
  • The cardinal and white totaled five runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 8-5 lead. Graduate student Jake McCarthy drove in junior Garrett Scavelli with a single, two runs scored following an error, and DeVito singled to score a run.
  • Felician responded with a seven-run ninth inning to take a commanding 12-8 lead.
  • The Lions added one run in the bottom of the ninth following a single from junior Chris Giardino, but that's where the score would stay as the Golden Falcons would go on to win, 12-9.
 
Top Performances
  • DeVito totaled three hits and drove in four RBIs.
  • Junior Aidan Larkin tallied three hits.
 
Up Next
The Lions will travel south to Boca Raton, FL to play against Lynn University Friday, March 10. First-pitch against the Fighting Knights is set for 2:30 p.m.
