Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2023 season in definitive fashion this afternoon, topping the Storm of Lake Erie College, 17-2 from John A. Darcy Field at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex. Molloy is now 1-3 on the season while Lake Erie fell to 1-2. 

How it Happened

• The Lions' offense was firing from the opening whistle with sophomore Megan Rugolo scoring in the first 30 seconds of the game after senior Amanda Weber gained possession of the opening draw.
• Molloy would find teh back of the net four times in the first four minutes and net seven goals by the end of the fourth quarter.
• The streak would continue through the entirety of the second quarter, with graduate student Lucy Emptage netting a hat trick in the quarter to help guide the team to a 13-0 lead at the break.
• Sophomore Isabella Klemm and junior Brooke DiFede continued Molloy's 15-0 run before Erin Snyder put the Storm on the board with 4:45 remaining in the third quarter. Senior Haille Ross rounded out the third frame's scoring to increase the lead to 16-1 headed into the final 15 minutes of play. 
• Freshman Emily Montagano tallied one final marker for the Lions in the fourth quarter before the victory horn sounded in favor of Molloy's 17-2 tally.

Top Performances

• Junior Kelly Bergersen led Molloy with four points on one goal and three assists.
• Rugolo (two goals, one assist), Emptage (three goals), and Ross (two goals, one assist) each finished with two points.
• Junior Erin Murphy tallied two goals while Weber, Montagano, DiFede, Klemm, seniors Alyssa Licata and Jamie Maddaluno, and sophomore Brenna Signorelli each had one. 
• Freshman Jessica Vieni and sophomore Sophia Quitoni dished out one assist a piece. 
• Emptage, Weber, and senior Joanna Mauceri each led with three draw controls.
• Mauceri, Bergersen, and juniors Jessica Kofod and Ryan Smith each picked up two ground balls. 
• Smith, Maddaluno, Murphy, Quitoni, Rugolo, sophomore Alexa Amorison, and senior Olivia Vail each forced a turnover.
• Junior Mary-Kate Sweeney made six saves in net.
