Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team's fourth quarter comeback against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University fell short this afternoon, 11-10, from John A. Darcy Field at the RVC Sports Complex. Molloy now sits at 2-2 on the season with the loss while SNHU opened the season with the victory.
How it Happened
- The Molloy offense went right to work, taking a 2-0 lead on goals from freshman Konrad Maciejny and junior Jack Herzlinger.Â
- The Penmen scored on a man-up opportunity to cut the deficit in half, but goals from junior Mikey Rodin and senior Scott Capicchioni gave Molloy a 4-1 lead midway through the first quarter.
- SNHUÂ responded with a three-goal run to end the quarter tied at four.Â
- The run extended into nearly the entirety of the second quarter to put the visitors ahead, 7-4.
- Herzlinger book-ended scoring the final goal of the first half and the first goal of the second half to bring Molloy within one, 7-6.
- The Penmen would score three of the next five goals with Rodin and sophomore Patrick Dempsey breaking up the run and keeping the Lions within striking distance, 10-8, headed into the final 15 minutes.
- Senior Sean Plasencia kicked off the fourth quarter scoring to bring Molloy within one, but just two minutes later SNHU regained its two-goal cushion.
- Junior Chris Delaney found the back of the net with six minutes to play to set the score at 11-10, but none of the Lions' final three shots were able to find the back of the net.
Top Performances
- Herzlinger led the team with four points on three goals and one assist.
- Maciejny added three points on one goal and two assists with Delaney and Rodin each having multi-point efforts.
- Freshman Brandon Pazienza, sophomore Ryan Polehinke, senior Edward McCann IV, and junior Adam Hyman each had assists.
- Pazienza went 6-for-15 at the face-off dot and led the team with five ground balls.
- Freshman Thomas Kofod added three ground balls while juniors Denver Tveter and Brendan McDonough had two. McDonough also added two caused turnovers.
- Sophomore Christian Michael made 12 saves in net.Â
