Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team made use of a four-goal third quarter to top the Lions of Georgian Court University, 11-9, this afternoon from the RVC Sports Complex. Molloy improved to 3-2 on the season while the loss dropped GCU to 2-4.
How it Happened
- The visiting Lions struck first, scoring on a man-up opportunity six minutes into the contest.
- The remainder of the first quarter, however, belonged to the home squad, who netted four-straight goals to take a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes of play.
- Brett Bridges netted his second of the game to start the second quarter for GCU before senior Chris Delaney regained Molloy's three-goal lead off a pass from junior Jack Herzlinger.
- The road team strung together three goals in the final 64 seconds of the half to knot the contest, 5-5.
- Mirroring the first half, Georgian Court would score first, but an unassisted marker from senior Sean Plasencia tied the contest for a second t ime.
- GCU tied the contest for a third time before Plasencia added two man-up goals for a third quarter hat trick before Herzlinger secured a two-goal lead for the Lions and set the score at 9-7 headed into the final 15 minutes.
- Delaney and freshman Konrad Maciejny both added goals in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 11-8 before the visiting Lions scored a final marker in the final minute of play.
Top Performances
- Herzlinger (one goal, three assists), Delaney (four goals) and Plasencia (three goals, one assist) led Molloy's offense with four points.
- Maciejny tallied three points on one goal and two assists.
- Junior Mikey Rodin added two goals while sophomore Patrick Dempsey had one assist.
- Senior Edward McCann IV and freshman Thomas Kofod each picked up a team-leading five ground balls with Kofod and senior Ryan O'Neill each forcing two turnovers.
- Sophomore Christian Michaels made a season-high 17 saves in net while also forcing a turnover.
