Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the Setters of Pace University to improve to 17-10 on the season. Molloy rallied after being down 3-0 in the first game to a 4-3 victory in eight innings before falling 7-4 in the second game. Pace ended the evening with a record of 9-11.
Game One: Molloy 4, Pace 3 (8 Innings)
- The Setters took a 1-0 lead just three batters into the game with a solo home run before an RBI single put the visitors ahead by two.
- A second solo shot led off the third inning, increasing the lead to three.
- A walk and stolen base from senior Karsyn Eaton, a fielder's choice from freshman Mae Savage and a hit by pitch to sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme loaded the bases for junior Katie Hand, who picked up an RBI on a catcher's interference call to put Molloy on the board.
- Freshman Emily McGurk brought Molloy within one with an infield single before sophomore Natalie Moussa came up with a clutch pinch hit ground out to tie the contest.
- Molloy would load the with no outs in the sixth inning with the score still tied at three with singles from Savage, Dusharme, and Hand, but was unable to plate a run.
- Each team would have a base runner in the seventh inning, but the contest remained tied, forincg extra innings.
- With a runner placed on second base to start the inning, a sacrifice fly put the go-ahead run just one base away for the Setters, but a heads up fielding play from Eaton kept the run off the board and keep Molloy's chance for victory alive.
- Dusharme started the inning on second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
- Hand's walk-off sacrifice fly would seal the win for the Lions.
- Hand led with two RBI while McGurk topped the squad with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
- Graduate student Amanda King improved to 7-6 on the season in a complete game effort, allowing just three runs on eight hits while striking out two.
Game Two: Pace 7, Molloy 4
- Pace was once again on the board in the first inning, taking advantage of a defensive miscue from the Lions on a double steal.
- Senior Steph Conrade and graduate student Alex Burns both reached base safely to start the home half of the inning. The pair of outfielders both scored on an outfield single from Hand to put Molloy in front, 2-1.
- Burns would hit a solo shot over the left field fence to start the bottom of the third inning and put Molloy in front by two.
- A three-run home run by the Setters in the fifth inning would erase Molloy's lead and set the score at 4-3. For the second time in one game, Molloy's defense incorrectly played a first and third scenario to give Pace a 5-3 advantage.
- The visitors would tack on two more runs in the sixth on two RBI singles.
- Molloy would come within three in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly from junior Chrissie Huhn.
- The Lions would have one base runner in the bottom of the seventh, but fell 7-4.
- Hand drove in two runs for the second straight contest while Conrade led Molloy with two hits.
- Moussa tossed five innings in the loss, striking out one. Junior Brianna Macias added one strikeout in two innings of relief.
