Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team improved to 19-11 on the season and an undefeated 6-0 in East Coast Conference play with a sweep of the Knights of Queens College this afternoon from Bob Klein Field at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex.
Game One: Molloy 5, Queens 1
- After a double from sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme, junior Chrissie Huhn sent the ball over the left field fence for her first home run of the season, putting the Lions in front 2-0 after two innings.
- Graduate student Alex Burns reached on an error to start the bottom of the third inning before scoring on an outfield single from graduate student Amanda King.
- A fielder's choice to freshman Mae Savage and a single from Dusharme loaded the bases for junior Katie Hand, who put Molloy ahead 4-0 with a sacrifice fly.
- A hit by pitch and two singles loaded the bases for the Knights in the fourth, getting on the board with an infield single from Caroline Pescatore.
- The Lions regained the four-run lead in the home half of the inning as senior Steph Conrade scored on an outfield single from senior Karsyn Eaton.
- Queens had runners on first and second in the seventh inning, but King retired the next three batters in order for her eighth win of the season.
- The graduate student struck out seven batters and allowed just one run in the circle while going 2-of-4 with an RBI as a batter.
- Huhn led with two RBI, going 2-for-3 with the homer.
- Eaton went 3-for-4 on the afternoon with Dusharme also adding two hits.
Game Two: Molloy 6, Queens 1
- The Knights got on the board early as pitcher Dyana Budakowski singled and stole second to lead off the contest before a sacrifice bunt from Pescatore moved her to third. A single down the left field line from Ann Grimshaw gave Queens its first lead of the afternoon.
- Molloy quickly responded in the home half of the inning, as Conrade scored on an infield groundout from Burns to tie the game.
- After Queens left the bases loaded in the top of the second, Molloy took a 3-1 lead, including scoring on a squeeze bunt by senior Emma Bachman to score Huhn.
- The lead increased to 5-1 in the fourth inning on a long fly ball from Burns to right field.
- Hand drove in senior Akemi Poyer in fifth inning with an infield single to put the cardinal and white in front, 6-1.
- Sophomore Natalie Moussa retired the final six Knights in order to improve to 4-3. She struck out two batters in the complete game effort.
- Burns, Hand, and Bachman all drove in runs for the Lions with Conrade and Poyer each stealing a base.
