Dusharme Drives in Four in Softball Sweep at New Haven

West Haven, Conn. - The softball team righted the ship this afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of the University of New Haven from the UNH Softball Field, topping the Chargers by scores of 8-5 and 5-3 to improve to 14-10 on the season.

Game One: Molloy 8, New Haven 5
  • With runners on second and third, sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme gave the Lions the 1-0 lead with a groundout in the second inning.
  • After a leadoff triple, Olivia Roberto singled in the Chargers' first run of the contest to tie the game in the home half of the inning.
  • A triple and RBI single once again scored a run for the home team in the third inning. Molloy got out of a jam to end the inning, getting out of a second and third situation in a double play of junior Katie Hand at third to sophomore Natalie Moussa at first to Dusharme at home, keeping an additional run off the board.
  • Senior Karsyn Eaton led off the fourth with a double to right center field, scoring on an outfield single from graduate student Amanda King to tie the contest, 2-2.
  • With runners on second an third following a walk to freshman Mae Savage, Dusharme drove in two more runs with a single through the right side, putting Molloy in front, 4-2.
  • Dusharme added a fourth RBI in the sixth inning, plating Savage with another outfield single to increase the lead to three runs.
  • With runners on second and third, junior Brianna Macias had an RBI groundout before a two-run home run from graduate student Alex Burns gave the Lions the 8-2 lead.
  • The Chargers threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs after single and two doubles to start the inning. Stephanie Smith brought the home team within three, 8-5, before Macias recorded the final two outs via strikeout to earn Molloy the victory.
  • King picked up her fifth win of the season, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out one. Macias struck out three in four innings of relief.
  • Dusharme drove in a season-high three runs on two hits.
  • Savage also tallied two hits for the Lions while Burns, Eaton, and King each tallied one.
Game Two: Molloy 5, New Haven 2
  • All five of the Lions' runs would come in the top of the first inning.
  • Burns and senior Steph Conrade led off the contest with walks before Eaton loaded the base with a single through the left side, setting up King with an RBI single to put Molloy in front 1-0.
  • Two runs would score the following at bat with a wild pitch and error by the Chargers' catcher.
  • A sacrifice fly from Moussa extended the lead to 4-0 before freshman Emily McGurk rounded out the scoring with an RBI single up the middle.
  • UNH responded in the bottom of the second by scoring two runs on an RBI single from Halle Frederick and a bses loaded walk to Marzia Johnson.
  • Combining for just two hits through the next three innings, New Haven came within two in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run from Bella Chenet.
  • Molloy recorded a hit in both the fifth and sixth innings before taking the contest, 5-2.
  • King, Moussa, and McGurk each tallied RBIs with six of the Lions' nine batters recording a hit.
  • Burns, Conrade, and Savage each picked up stolen bases.
  • Moussa earned her third win of the season in a complete game effort, striking out three batters and allowing just six hits.
