Lakewood, N.J. - The softball team stumbled this afternoon at Georgian Court University, dropping a doubleheader to the Lions to fall to 12-10 on the season, who improved to 16-10.
Game One: Georgian Court 8, Molloy 5
- The home Lions were first on the scoreboard, scoring on a sacrifice fly from Stufft.
- Molloy responded in the top of the second, putting runners in scoring position on singles to freshman Natalie Moussa and senior Akemi Poyer, who stole second. Senior Steph Conrade drove in Moussa on a fielding error. Junior Chrissie Huhn put Molloy in front on another error by the GCU third baseman.
- Georgian Court plated three runs on three hits in the home half of the second to go in front, 4-2.
- The team added three more runs in the third inning on two RBI singles.
- Conrade led off the top of the fifth inning with a double for the cardinal and white, advancing to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a fielder's choice from graduate student Alex Burns.
- Burns was plated by a RBI single from senior Karsyn Eaton to bring Molloy within three, 7-4.
- GCU increased its lead to four in the bottom of the fifth with another RBI single before Moussa rounded out the scoring with a home run to center field in the top of the sixth.
- Moussa, Conrade, and Eaton each tallied two hits with Conrade and Poyer stealing bases.
- Graduate student Amanda King went two innings in the loss. Moussa struck out four batters in four innings of relief.
Game Two: Georgian Court 7, Molloy 6
- After a scoreless first inning, the home Lions' bats went right to work with a four-run second inning.
- Burns put Molloy on the board in the fourth inning with a leadoff solo home run to set the score at 4-1.
- Freshman Emily McGurk led the sixth inning off with another solo shot before a two-run home run from King tied the contest at four.
- A walk to freshman Mae Savage and single to Moussa set the table for Poyer to score on a fielding error before a pinch hit RBI single from junior Katie Hand gave Molloy a 6-4 lead headed into the seventh inning.
- A leadoff walk put Georgian Court in the position to score with a triple before a sacrifice fly tied the contest, 6-6. A double put another runner in scoring position for a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to give GCU the 7-6 victory.
- King, Eaton, and McGurk each had two hits with senior Emma Bachman nabbing one bag.
- Moussa tossed four innings of relief with another two strikeouts in the loss.
