Bridgeport, Conn. - The softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Bridgeport this afternoon from Seaside Park, improving to 12-8 on the season. In a 12-2 victory over the Purple Knights, Head Coach
Susan Cassidy-Lyke earned her 500th career victory at the helm of the Lions. UB fell to 11-12 at the conclusion of the doubleheader.
Game One: Bridgeport 5, Molloy 0
- The Purple Knights got on the board in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of a walk, single, and passed ball before taking a 1-0 lead on a groundout from Mya Jones.
- UB plated three runs in the third inning on RBI doubles from Gabby Simms and Samantha Schiebe and an RBI single from Taylor Yates.
- Madison D'Amato tallied a fifth run for the home team in the fourth with a sacrifice fly.Â
- The Lions had three runners in scoring position, including runners on second and third in the seventh inning, but were unable to plate a run.
- Graduate student Amanda King went 2-for-3 to lead Molloy while graduate student Alex Burns went 1-for-2 with a walk.
- King sat down two batters and allowed three earned runs in three innings of work in the loss. Sophomore Natalie Moussa struck out two in three innings of relief.
Game Two: Molloy 12, Bridgeport 2
- After a hitless first inning, the Purple Knights once again were first to score, successfully running a double steal in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
- Senior Karsyn Eaton drove in Molloy's first run of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to center field in the fourth inning, knotting the score at one.Â
- UB added one run in the fourth, scoring on a fielder's choice after back-to-back singles.
- Freshman Mae Savage led off the top of the fifth with her first career home run to tie the contest, 2-2.Â
- A double from Moussa, single from senior Steph Conrade, and walk to Burns loaded the bases for Eaton, who drove in all three runners with a double to right center and gave the Lions a 5-2 advantage.
- King followed up with a double down the left field line to make it 6-2 before scoring on a fielding error, ending the inning with Molloy in front, 7-2.
- The score would stand until Savage added two more RBI to her afternoon with a single up the middle.Â
- Sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme reached on an error that allowed an additional two runs to score.
- Burns drove in Conrade with a ground out to round out the score at 12-2.Â
- Eaton drove in four runs while Savage drove in three.Â
- King went 3-for-3 with three doubles in the effort with Moussa and Conrade each adding three hits.Â
- Senior Akemi Poyer stole two bases.
- Junior Brianna Macias struck out three batters, allowing just two runs on 10 hits.
