Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team opened conference play with a 9-4 victory over the Mercy College Mavericks Friday afternoon at Mercy Field. Molloy improves to 13-8 overall and 1-0 in ECC play, while the Mavericks fall to 4-16 overall and 0-1 in league play.
How it Happened
- After two innings of scoreless baseball, the Lions put together a four-run third inning. Junior Anthony Manisero doubled to score junior Garrett Scavelli and graduate student Chris Peralta blasted a three-run home run to take a 4-0 lead.
- Mercy answered in the bottom of the frame, tallying two runs off two singles to cut the lead in half, 4-2.
- The Lions extended its lead to three, 5-2 following an RBI single from Manisero in the fourth.
- The road team continued its offense in the sixth inning, Manisero collected his third RBI of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly and junior Aidan Larkin drove in a pair of runners with a single to open a six-run lead, 8-2.
- The home team tallied a run in the sixth and eighth inning to bring the game within four, 8-4.
- In the top of the ninth, sophomore JJ DeVito added an insurance run with a RBI double and would go on to win the game, 9-4.

- Manisero totaled two hits and three RBIs.
- Peralta belted his third home run of the season and drove in three runs.
- Scavelli drew three walks and scored three runs.
- Senior Charlie Cucchiara tossed seven innings allowing eight hits, three runs (two earned), and struck out five to improve to 4-1 on the season.
