Amanda Weber, the women's lacrosse team won its sixth-straight contest this afternoon, topping Jefferson, 19-16, from Ravenhill Field. The Lions improved to 6-3 on the season while the Rams fell to 2-5.
How it Happened
- The Lions controlled the first two draws of the contest, leading to a 2-0 lead on goals from Weber and Rugolo.
- The home team responded by scoring the next two in quick succession to tie the game.
- Weber, sophomore Alexa Amorison, and junior Kelly Bergersen would give Molloy a 5-2 lead with six minutes left in the first quarter, but the Rams would tally four goals before the end of the first quarter to lead, 6-5.
- The Lions maintained possession for the majority of the second quarter, guiding the squad to an 11-7 lead before Jefferson added two tallies in the final 100 seconds of the first half to set the score at 11-9 at the break.
- Weber converted on a man-up opportunity just 30 seconds into the third quarter to extend the lead before back-to-back goals from Bergersen put Molloy in front, 14-10.
- Jefferson would come within two twice, once in the third quarter and once in the fourth, but the strong second quarter would end up to be too much for the home team to overcome, granting Molloy its sixth victory.
Top Performances
- Rugolo led with seven points, netting five goals and two assists to go with four draw controls.
- Weber also netted five goals and added four draw controls while forcing three turnovers.
- Sophomore Haille Ross scored once on the free position but topped the squad with four assists for five points.
- Amorison had an even two goals and two assists for four points while Bergersen had three points with a hat trick.
- Senior Joanna Mauceri tallied a goal and an assist for two points while leading the team with seven draw controls and four caused turnovers.
- Molloy's scoring was rounded out by senior Alyssa Licata and sophomore Brenna Signorelli.
- Sophomore Samantha King led with three ground balls with Ross and sophomore Carly Howell each picking up two.
- In net, sophomore Mary-Kate Sweeney made seven saves.
