Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team fell to the 24
th ranked Chargers of the University of New Haven, 11-5, Wednesday afternoon at Mitchel Field. Molloy moves to 12-8, while the Chargers improve to 12-3.
How it Happened
- New Haven started quickly, tallying a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Chargers added to its lead in the third, following a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run to extend its lead, 4-0.
- Three more runs in the fifth opened the road teams lead to 7-0.
- The Lions began to get back into the game in the sixth. Junior Garrett Scavelli doubled to score graduate student Robby Keane, graduate student Jake McCarthy added a sacrifice fly, and Scavelli scored on a wild pitch to cut into the deficit, 7-3.
- With runners on the corners, Scavelli continued to stay hot at the plate in the seventh, ripping his third double of the game to score junior Chris Einemann and Keane to bring Molloy within two, 7-5.
- The road team would respond with a four-run eighth inning to pull ahead, 11-5, and would hold the Lions offense to one hit over the final two innings to solidify the victory.
