Softball Starts League Play with Sweep of CSI

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Led by four hits from freshman Mae Savage, the softball team kicked off the East Coast Conference portion of its schedule with a sweep of the College of Staten Island, winning 1-0 before topping the Dolphins 15-2 in five innings. The Lions improved to 11-7 on the season and 2-0 in ECC play while CSI fell to 4-14 (0-2 ECC).

Game One: Molloy 1, CSI 0
  • The teams combined for just three hits through three and a half innings.
  • Senior Steph Conrade led off the bottom of the fourth with an infield single before stealing second.
  • The center fielder advanced to third on a gro
  • und out to be in position to score on a RBI single from freshman Mae Savage to put Molloy on the board, 1-0.
  • Graduate student Amanda King allowed just two base runners in the final three innings, including striking out three straight batters to take care of the fifth en route to her second shutout of the season.
  • The pitcher would strike out four total batters and allow just four hits in the effort.
  • Savage led Molloy offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate and driving home the game's lone run.
  • Conrade, King, junior Chrissie Huhn, and seniors Akemi Poyer and Emma Bachman each recorded a hit with Huhn, Conrade, and Poyer each stealing one base.
Game Two: Molloy 15, CSI 2 (5 Innings)
  • The Lions' bats went right to work, as Savage drove in two runs with a double to right center field in the first inning.
  • Sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme hit her first home run of the season to double Molloy's lead, 4-0.
  • The home team plated three runs in the second inning on a fielder's choice from Conrade, a double from graduate student Alex Burns, and a sacrifice fly from King to lead 7-0.
  • CSI scored on a fielder's choice in the third to get on the board.
  • The cardinal and white capitalized on defensive errors from the Dolphins in the third inning, scoring on two throwing errors before Burns and King hit back-to-back home runs to lead, 13-1.
  • CSI plated a second run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth before Conrade drove in two runs with a double to left field.
  • The Dolphins had one hit in the fifth inning before sophomore Natalie Moussa retired the next three batters to end the game via the mercy rule.
  • Moussa sat down two batters in two innings in relief while junior Brianna Macias earned her third win of the season, allowing one run on three hits and striking out one.
  • Burns led with four RBIs, going 2-for-4 with a double and home run.
  • Conrade drove in three, going 1-for-3 with a double.
  • King (1-for-2), Savage (2-for-3), and Dusharme (2-for-3) each drove in two runs.
