Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team opened up its home schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Jefferson, 6-4 and 5-1. Molloy ended the afternoon with a record of 9-7 while the Rams fell to 5-7.
Game One: Molloy 6, Jefferson 4
- The Rams scored the first run of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to left field from Sam Gomez.
- Stolen bases from seniors Steph Conrade and Karsyn Eaton set graduate student Alex Burns up for a sacrifice fly of her own to knot the score after one.
- Freshman Emily McGurk sent the ball flying over the left field fence in her first career at bat at Bob Klein Field in the second before senior Akemi Poyer followed suit in the fourth to put Molloy up, 3-1.
- A pinch-hit double from Emily Akelaitis and single and stolen base from Ali Murphy put two runners in scoring position for a bases-clearing double from Julia Heine to tie the game in the fifth inning. A single from Tori Lipka regained the lead for the Rams, 4-3.
- Sophomore Natalie Moussa entered the game in relief, forcing a fly out with the bases loaded to stop the bleeding.
- Junior Chrissie Huhn doubled to right center field in the home half of the inning before scoring on a game-tying double from Burns.
- In the sixth, a double from graduate student Amanda King and single from McGurk set up sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme for a two-run pinch hit single to break the tie and give Molloy the 6-4 victory.
- Moussa tossed 2.1 innings in the win, allowing just one hit while striking out one of the seven batters she faced.
- Burns and Dusharme each drove in two runs with Huhn and McGurk leading with two hits.
- Molloy tallied four extra base hits and stole four bases in the effort.
Game Two: Molloy 5, Jefferson 1
- The Lions defense worked out of trouble to start the inning, facing the bases loaded with no outs but a fielder's choice and double play ended the inning without any damage.
- King singled through the left side before eventually scoring on a double from Dusharme, who picked up her third RBI of the day to give Molloy a 1-0 lead after two innings.
- The Rams left the bases loaded for a second time in the top of the fourth before the Lions plated three runs on five hits with RBIs from McGurk and Huhn in the bottom half of the inning to go in front, 4-0.
- Conrade scored in the bottom of the sixth on a single from Burns to round out Molloy's runs.
- Jefferson scored on a fielder's choice in the seventh, but King forced a foul out to end the contest and earn her third win of the season. The pitcher allowed one unearned run with just four hits in the complete game effort.
- Conrade, Burns, King, Dusharme, and McGurk all tallied two hits with Huhn driving in two runs. Conrade also added two stolen bases.
