Ten Collect RBIs in Baseball’s Victory over Dominican

Uniondale, N.Y. – On the back of 23 hits the Molloy baseball team defeated the Chargers of Dominican University, 27-9, Sunday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Lions improve to 12-7, while the Chargers move to 1-16.
 
How it Happened
  • Molloy kicked off the afternoon with a seven run first inning to take a 7-0 lead. Junior Garrett Scavelli doubled to score sophomore JJ DeVito, junior Aidan Larkin drove in a run with a double, sophomore Tom Lebrecht tripled to score two runs, junior Gavin McAlonie singled to bring home Lebrecht, DeVito drilled an RBI single, and Scavelli capped the inning with a run scoring double down the left field line.
  • Dominican tallied a run in the third to cut the deficit to six, 7-1.
  • The Lions tacked on five runs in the fourth. Larkin drove a two-RBI single, Lebrecht picked up an RBI with a ground out, and junior Matt Yip blasted a two-run home run to extend the lead to 12-1.
  • The Chargers responded with two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and three in the seventh to come within five, 14-9.
  • The cardinal and white put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh, rallying to a 12-run inning to extend its lead to 26-7 and would go on to win the ballgame, 27-9. 
Top Performances
  • Graduate student Robby Keane led the team with a career-high five RBIs.
  • Yip hit his second home run of the season, totaling three hits, four runs scored and three RBIs.
  • Scavelli tallied three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs.
  • Larkin added two hits, three runs scored, three RBIs, and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
  • McAlonie drove in three runs and crossed the plate five times.
  • Lebrecht drove in a career-high four runs.
  • Graduate student Robert Lucano pitched six innings allowing nine hits, six runs (three earned), and struck out five to improve to 3-0 on the campaign.
