Softball Concludes PFX Spring Games

Leesburg, Fla. - The softball team concluded its annual PFX Spring Games appearances this afternoon at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex, falling to Bentley University, 6-5, and Hillsdale College, 2-0. The Lions return home with a record of 7-7. 

Game One: Bentley 6, Molloy 5
  • The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but the Falcons took advantage of a fielding error to score the contest's first run in the bottom of the third inning.
  • Molloy quickly responded to knot the score with a leadoff homerun from graduate student Alex Burns in the top of the fourth inning. 
  • With runners on first and third, Jess Trahan hit a bases-clearing double in the bottom half of the inning to put Bentley ahead, 3-1.
  • An outfield singe from junior Chrissie Huhn and senior Karsyn Eaton being hit by a pitch set the Lions up with runners in scoring position. Burns recorded her second RBI of the day, reaching on an error that scored Huhn to bring Molloy within one. 
  • The bases were loaded for senior Akemi Poyer, who walked to drive in a run and tie the game. Freshman Emily McGurk drove in two runs with an outfield single to give the Lions the first lead of the contest, 5-3. 
  • In the bottom half of the inning, Kaylee Manki brought the Falcons within one with a left field single. 
  • Bentley regained the lead in the sixth inning, drawing a walk with the bases loaded and later driving in a run on a fielder's choice to go in front, 6-5. 
  • The Lions went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game. 
  • Huhn and senior Steph Conrade led with two hits apiece for Molloy. McGurk and Burns each picked up two RBIs.
  • Junior Brianna Macias struck out two in six innings in the loss.
Game Two: Hillsdale 2, Molloy 0
  • The Chargers scored in the top of the second on an RBI double from Hannah Hover.
  • The teams combined for two hits through the next three innings before a fielder's choice from Grace Wallne doubled Hillsdale's lead. 
  • Molloy's offense struggled, managing three hits on the afternooon, including a double from Eaton.
  • Graduate student Amanda King struck out six batters in the complete game effort, allowing just one earned run on four hits. 
Up Next
The Lions will open the home portion of the schedule on Sunday (Mar. 19) against Jefferson at 1:00 p.m. from the Rockville Centre Sports Complex.
