Leesburg, Fla. - The softball team split this afternoon's contests at the PFX Spring Games, falling to Southern Connecticut State, 5-3, before topping Slippery Rock 9-1 in five innings. The Lions sit at 7-5 headed into the final day of the spring break trip.
Game One: SCSU 5, Molloy 3
- Six of the game's first seven batters were retired for a scoreless first inning.
- With two outs in the top of the second, a single from Cheralyn Dusharme and walk to Amanda King set the table for Mae Savage to give the Lions the game's first run. King would score on a double steal before the inning ended to put Molloy up, 2-0.
- A lead-off walk in the bottom half of the inning set the table for an RBI triple and ground out to knot the contest.
- SCSU added a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
- A walk to Alex Burns in the fourth inning allowed King to bring Molloy within one, 4-3, with a double.Â
- The Owls would take advantage of a fielding error from the Lions' infield to add an insurance run in the fifth.
- Molloy would have base runners in both the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to plate runs.Â
- King led with two hits on the day and added a stolen base. In the circle, the graduate student struck out four batters.
- Karsyn Eaton and Dusharme also tallied hits for the Lions.Â
Game Two: Molloy 9, Slippery Rock 1 (Five Innings)
- A bases loaded sacrifice fly from Alex Burns gave Molloy a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
- Brianna Macias retired the Slippery Rock batters in order in the second before the Lions added an insurance run with another steal of home from King.Â
- The Lions' offense exploded in the fourth inning, scoring six runs on four hits to lead 8-1.
- Facing the mercy rule, The Rock plated a run on two doubles in the fifth to get on the board.Â
- Molloy capitalized on errors from Slippery Rock, scoring on a ground out to end the game via the mercy rule.
- Burns drove in three runs on one hit. Chrissie Huhn went two-for-two with a walk.Â
- Macias struck out two and allowed just three hits.
