Leesburg, Fla. - Despite a combined 17 hits on the afternoon, the softball team dropped contests against Truman State, 5-2, and St. Michael's, 2-1. The Lions sit at 6-4 on the season after today's losses.
Game One: Truman State 5, Molloy 2
- The Bulldogs got things started early as a bases clearing triple from Alex Beard gave the squad a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
- The Lions bats responded by going right to work in the bottom half of the inning with Karsyn Eaton scoring from first on a single from Katie Hand to bring Molloy within one.
- The offensive showing continued in the second inning, with a lead off double and ground out setting the table for an RBI single from Cassie Smith, who later scored on a single from Cameryn Patt to put Truman up, 4-1.
- Amanda King retired the first six batters she faced in relief before the Bulldogs used two singles and a stolen base to add a fifth and final run in the fifth inning.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Eaton drove in Steph Conrade with a single to center field to round out the scoring.
- Eaton led the offense with three hits and an RBI. Hand added two hits and an RBI while Akemi Poyer went 2-for-2 with a walk.
- Natalie Moussa picked up the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season, striking out one in two innings.
Game Two: St. Michael's 2, Molloy 1
- After two scoreless innings, St. Michael's was first on the board, scoring two runs on a single from Sadie Pratt.
- The cardinal and white responded in the top of the fourth with back-to-back doubles from Hand and Alex Burns to cut the deficit to one.
- Brianna Macias limited the Purple Knights to one hit in each of the final three innings, but Molloy was unable to get a runner in scoring position to attempt to knot the score.
- Hand, Burns, and Emma Bachman each tallied two hits for the Lions.
- Macias fanned four batters and allowed no earned runs in the loss, falling to 3-1 on the season.
