Weber's Four Goals Force Overtime, but Women's Lacrosse Falls at SCSU

New Haven, Conn. - The women's lacrosse team dropped an overtime contest this afternoon at Southern Connecticut State University, 12-11, from Jess Dow Field to fall to 0-2 on the season. The Lions rallied in the fourth quarter after trailing by three to force the extra time.

How it Happened
  • The pairs exchanged goals in the first six minutes of play before Molloy ended the first quarter with goals from sophomore Sofia Quitoni and senior Amanda Weber to go ahead 4-2 after 15 minutes of play.
  • Senior Joanna Mauceri opened the scoring in the second quarter before the Owls responded with two goals to come within one, 5-4. 
  • Sophomore Brenna Signorelli buried a pass from senior Haille Ross to re-establish Molloy's lead, but the home team ended the second quarter with three unanswered goals to keep the contest knotted at the half.
  • The first three goals of the third quarter belonged to the Owls, finishing a five-goal run for the home team to go in front, 9-6.
  • Weber and senior Alyssa Licata broke the run before SCSU ended the third with a goal to lead, 11-8, headed into the final 15 minutes.
  • The fourth quarter belonged exclusively to the Lions, as Signorelli and Weber combined for three goals to knot the contest. 
  • Neither team would be able to find the back of the net in the final seven minutes, forcing an overtime period. 
  • Midway through the first overtime, the Owls were able to break the tie and end the contest.
Top Performances
  • Weber led with four points on four goals while Signorelli added two.
  • Junior Kelly Bergersen had two points on one goal and one assist.
  • Mauceri, Quitoni, Ross, Licata, sophomore Alexa Amorison, Megan Rugolo, and  junior Hailey Dazzo all had points in the effort.
  • Bergersen, sophomore Carly Howell, and junior Mary-Kate Sweeney each picked up two ground balls with Bergersen, Howell, Mauceri, and freshman Emily Montagano forcing turnovers.
  • Sweeney made 10 saves in the effort in net.
