Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team won its second-straight contest to start the 2023 season, topping the Cavaliers of Walsh University, 9-4, this afternoon from the Rockville Centre Sports Complex. Molloy improved to 2-0 while Walsh fell to 0-2.
How it Happened
- The Lions got to work quickly, scoring two goals in the first six minutes of play off the sticks of sophomore Mike D'Amato and freshman Konrad Maciejny.Â
- The Cavaliers cut the deficit in half with a goal at the five minute mark of the first quarter, but junior Mikey Rodin finshed a pass from senior Sean Plasencia to regain Molloy's two-goal lead headed into the second frame.
- The visitors opened the second quarter with a goal before junior Jack Herzlinger forced a turnover that became a goal for senior Ryan Downing.
- Rodin and junior Adam Hyman ended the half with two more goals for the Lions in the final two minutes, giving the home team a 6-2 lead headed into the break.
- Another forced turnover led to a goal for junior Chris Delaney to put Molloy in front, 7-2, after 45 minutes of play.
- Delaney and Plasencia would each find the back of the net in the first three minutes of the final frame to round out the Lions' scoring.Â
- Walsh would add two goals in the final seven minutes to set the final score at 9-4.Â

- Hyman and Rodin each tallied four points with Hyman adding three helpers to his one goal and Rodin splitting even with two goals and two assists.
- Delaney tallied two goals and one assist for three points while Plasencia had one goal and one assist for two points.Â
- Downing, D'Amato, and Maciejny each found the back of the net once.
- Freshman Thomas Kofod forced three turnovers and picked up five ground balls. Herzlinger and Plasencia each forced two turnovers with Plasencia added five ground balls.
- Hyman and Delaney each added three ground balls.Â
- In net, sophomore Christian Michaels made 10 saves and allowed just three goals. Junior James Kahn made two stops in relief.Â
