Eight Tally Points in Men's Lacrosse Victory Over Franklin Pierce

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse program opened the 2023 season with a 12-8 victory over the Franklin Pierce University Ravens. Franklin Pierce fell to 1-1 in the loss with Molloy opening to a 1-0 record. 

How it Happened
  • Senior Sean Plasencia opened up the scoring, netting his first of the season just 16 seconds into an extra-man opportunity.
  • The Ravens tied the contest three minutes later coming out of a timeout before adding another with three minutes left in the opening quarter.
  • Junior Chris Delaney finished a feed from Plasencia to knot the contest headed into the second quarter.
  • Freshman Konrad Maciejny netted his first as a Lion just 50 seconds into the second quarter. 
  • FPU tied the contest three minutes later, but the next two goals would come off Lions' sticks via Maciejny and junior Mikey Rodin
  • The Ravens would come within one before tying the score on a miscommunication-induced own goal from the Lions, sending the teams into the halftime break tied 5-5.
  • Molloy owned sole possession of the scoring in the third frame, with Delaney, Maciejny, Plasencia, and senior Ryan Downing and led 9-5 headed into the final 15 minutes of play.
  • FPU scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter, but two from Plasencia and one from freshman Brandon Pazienza rounded out Molloy's scoring.
Top Performances
  • Plasencia led the Lions with six points, netting four goals and two assists to go with two ground balls.
  • Maciejny tallied four points in his collegiate debut, netting a hat trick and one assist.
  • Delaney had two goals and three ground balls.
  • Junior Adam Hyman and sophomore Bryan Diliberto each added assists.
  • Pazienza went 19-for-24 with 10 ground balls and one goal in his debut. 
  • Senior Ryan Downing had one goal and five ground balls.
  • Junior Brendan McDonough also tallied five ground balls while junior Jack Herzlinger added four.
  • Freshman Thomas Kofod and junior Liam Linden each caused two turnovers.
  • Sophomore Christian Michaels made 13 saves in the victory

The Lions will conclude the opening week of the season by welcoming Walsh on Saturday (Feb. 25) at 12:00 p.m.
