North Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The softball team concluded the appearance at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a sweep of Alderson Broaddus to improve to 4-2. The Lions won three-straight games to end the weekend and combined for 16 hits against the Battlers.
Game One: Molloy 7, Alderson Broaddus 1
- Senior Steph Conrade led the contest off with an infield singer to the pitcher before stealing second and scoring on a single from junior Chrissie Huhn to give Molloy a 1-0 lead.
- The Lions loaded the bases in the second inning with singles from sophomore Cheralyn Dusharme, freshman Emily McGurk, and junior Emma Bachman. A walk to Huhn plated the second run of the contest.
- After four shutout innings, AB got on the scoreboard with a solo home run over the left field wall.
- Walks to McGurk and Bachman in the sixth inning set the table for Huhn to drive in her fourth runs of the contest with a bases-clearing triple before taking advantage of a miscue from the pitcher to set the score at 5-1 in the sixth.
- With McGurk and Bachman once again in scoring position, junior Akemi Poyer singled up the middle in a pinch hit opportunity to make it 7-1.
- Junior Brianna Macias retired three of the final five batters to earn the victory. The pitcher struck out three batters in the effort and allowed just one earned runs on five hits.
- Huhn drove in a career-high four runs, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
- Senior Karsyn Eaton, McCurk, and Bachman each had two hits for the Lions with McGurk and Conrade each nabbing one bag.
Game Two: Molloy 8, Alderson Broaddus 0 (5 Innings)
- For the third-straight game, the cardinal and white plated a run in the first inning. Conrade tallied a leadoff single up the middle before stealing second and moving to third on a fly from Huhn. After junior Katie Hand drew a walk, Molloy successfully scored on a first and third steal play with Conrade capitalizing on a throwing error from the catcher attempting to throw Hand out at second.
- The Lions were able to go up 4-0 in the second inning, scoring three runs on a sacrifice fly from Bachman, a bases-loaded walk to Huhn, and Hand being hit by a pitch.
- Graduate student Amanda King had a double to left center to score Poyer in the third inning and increase Molloy's lead to five.
- A single from Eaton and triple from graduate student Alex Burns plated two more runs in the fourth inning before the game concluded when Bachman scored on a passed ball in the fifth inning.
- Conrade, Eaton, Burns, Poyer, and King accounted for Molloy's five hits with Huhn, Hand, Eaton, Burns, King, and Bachman adding RBIs.
- Poyer stole two bases while Conrade, Huhn, and Hand each added one.
- King struck out three batters and allowed only one hit in the effort to pick up her first win of the season.
