Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Molloy women's basketball returned from the holiday break with a 62-48 victory over the Panthers of Adelphi University Saturday afternoon inside Quealy Gymnasium. Molloy improves to 4-8 with the victory, while the Panthers move to 4-7.
How it Happened
- After Adelphi opened the contest ahead 5-2, a jumper from junior Danielle Hippner and a three from junior Janel Moore put Molloy in front, 7-5, 3:34 into the game.
- The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter with the Lions holding an 11-9 lead heading into the second frame.
- The game was tied at 13 1:30 into the second stanza after the team's matched jumpers.
- The cardinal and white collected a 6-0 rally to push in front, 19-13, with four points coming from sophomore Colleen McCullagh and two from senior Trinity Hudson.
- Molloy would control the contest for the remainder of the first half, shooting five-of-five from the foul line to take an 11-point lead, 28-17, into the locker room.
- A layup and a three-point shot from Adelphi 1:25 into the third quarter brought the road team within six, 28-22.
- Molloy opened a 19-point lead, 43-24, propelled by a 15-2 rally over the next five minutes of play. The squad shot six-of-seven from the floor and three-of-three from three-point range, paced by Moore who collected eight points.
- The road team would fight back in the final 2:33 of the quarter to bring the contest within 13, 47-34, going into the final quarter.
- After beginning the fourth quarter by trading field goals, the Lions would take control of the game for good, rallying to a 9-2 run, highlighted by Hudson who netted seven points to take a commanding, 60-39, lead with under five minutes to go.
- The Panthers would come within 13, but the Lions would stay in control and close out the victory, 62-48.
Top Performances
- Hudson paced the team with 18 points and secured a game-high 17 rebounds. Hudson ties a career-high with 17 rebounds, marking the third time this season and second straight contest the Glen Cove native has collected 17 boards.
- Moore tallied 13 points and dished out a game-high seven assists.
- Hippner added eight points and tied a career-high seven blocks.
