Women’s Basketball Tangles With #14 Bentley

Waltham, Mass. – The Molloy women's basketball fought tooth and nail with the 14th-ranked Falcons of Bentley University, but ultimately fell, 55-47, Saturday afternoon at Charles A. Dana Center. The Lions move to 3-7 on the campaign, while the Falcons improve to 8-1.
 
How it Happened
  • The first 3:10 of action belonged to Bentley, as they rallied to a 7-0 opening run.
  • A pair of baskets from graduate student Isabel Sanchez, a bucket from sophomore Casey Campo, and a three-point play from senior Trinity Hudson got the Lions back into the game, trailing, 10-9, with under four minutes left in the first quarter.
  • The Lions took its first lead of the game with 41 seconds to go in the opening stanza following a jumper from sophomore Colleen McCullagh, but trailed, 17-15, at the end of one.
  • The two squads traded baskets in the second stanza, as the game would have four lead changes and be knotted at 23 with four minutes to go in the first half.
  • Along with solid defense, a three-point play from Campo, and a foul shot from junior Janel Moore Molloy took a 27-23 advantage into halftime.
  • The cardinal and white opened a six-point advantage, 32-26, following a three-point field goal from Hudson 1:51 into the third quarter.
  • The home team responded with a pair of 7-2 runs to regain its lead, 40-36, with over three minutes to play in the third stanza.
  • Baskets from Moore and McCullagh brought the contest all square at 40 with 80 seconds to go.
  • Bentley would nail a three-point shot that was answered by Casey Campo who hit a jumper to end the quarter. The Falcons were in front, 43-42, heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The home team began the final frame on a 6-0 run to extend its lead to seven, 49-42, with 6:31 to play.
  • The rally was snapped by a three-point shot from Moore to bring Molloy within four, 49-45, with 4:40 to go, but that was as close as the Lions would come as Bentley would hold the cardinal and white to one field goal in the final minutes and close out the victory, 55-47.
Top Performances
  • Moore paced the team with 12 points.
  • Campo collected nine points and five rebounds.
  • Hudson and McCullagh tallied six points each.
  • Junior Danielle Hippner totaled a game-high four blocks.

The Lions return home Tuesday (Dec. 19) as they play host to Southern Connecticut. Tip-off inside Quealy Gymnasium is slated for 5:00 p.m.
