Women’s Basketball Collects First Conference Win Against D’Youville

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball topped the Saints of D'Youville University, 55-46, Sunday afternoon inside Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improve to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in East Coast Conference play, while the Saints move to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in league play.
 
How it Happened
  • After falling behind, 4-2, in the opening 2:08, the Lions concluded the first quarter on a 13-0 run. The run was highlighted by six points from Trinity Hudson, but contributions from juniors Danielle Hippner, Samantha Muller, and Janel Moore gave Molloy a 15-4 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • The road team started the second stanza on a 9-2 rally to cut the deficit to four, 17-13, with over four minutes to go in the first half.
  • The cardinal and white scored six of the last seven points of the quarter, heading into halftime in front, 23-14.
  • The teams traded baskets at the beginning of the third stanza with D'Youville staying within five, 27-22, with over six minutes to play.
  • A three-point play from Hudson and a jumper from Danielle Hippner reestablished the Lions' double-digit advantage, 34-24, with 4:57 left in the third quarter.
  • Over the next 53 seconds, consecutive baskets by the road team cut the lead down to five, 34-29.
  • The play would go back and forth for the remainder of the quarter, but a layup from Hudson ended the third stanza with Molloy ahead, 40-33.
  • The Saints began the fourth quarter with a 7-0 rally to bring the contest all square at 40 with 8:02 remaining.
  • Back-to-back baskets from sophomore Casey Campo propelled Molloy ahead, 44-41, with under six minutes to go.
  • The road team knotted the 44 following a free-throw from Isabella Kostyal-Larrier with 4:25 to play.
  • After a layup from Hudson, D'Youville responded with a layup of its own to knot the contest at 46 with under three minutes remaining.
  • Five consecutive points off a jumper and a corner three-point field goal from Muller gave Molloy a 51-46 lead they would not relinquish, as Molloy would hold D'Youville scoreless for the remainder of the contest and go on to win, 55-46.
Top Performances
  • Hudson led all scorers with a game-high 21 points shooting 62 percent from the floor and secured a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Muller tallied 11 points and collected five rebounds.
  • Moore totaled seven points to go along with game-highs five assists and four steals.

The Lions return to the court Tuesday, December 19 as they host the Owls of Southern Connecticut University. Tip-off from Quealy Gymnasium is slated for 5:00 p.m.
