Staten Island, N.Y. - The men's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season this evening at Division I Wagner College, falling to the Seahawks 83-48.

How it Happened

• Junior Billy Reyes was first to score for the Lions, netting a three-pointer two minutes into the contest to bring Molloy within one, 4-3.
• A jumper from junior Mick Browne, five points from graduate student Jalen Rosemond, and freshman Bryce Merchant kept the cardinal and white within striking distance, 18-12, midway through the first half.
• Wagner would go in front by as much as 25, 44-19, but the Lions netted the final six points of the half with a jumper from freshman Rob Matos and free throws from Matos, Rosemond, and Reyes.
• The Lions' run continued in the second half, with Rosemond draining a three before Reyes sunk a pair of foul shots to come within 14, 44-30.
• A 10-point run from Wagner gave the home team a 24 point advantage before eventually earning the 83-48 victory.

Top Performances

• Reyes led Molloy with 16 points, including shooting 3-of-6 from long distance and adding three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
• Rosemond also reached double digits with 10 points while adding five boards and a steal.
• Merchant netted seven points and topped the squad with six rebounds.
• Graduate student Bobby Connors had five boards, four points and two assists.
• Freshman Chris Stokel also dished out two assists in the effort.
