Muro Nets First Career Goal; #4 Women’s Soccer Shuts Out #1 Roberts Wesleyan to Advance to ECC Final

Rochester, N.Y. – Freshman Isabella Muro found the back of the net for the first time in her career, sending the fourth-seeded Molloy women's soccer team through to the ECC Final, as they defeated top-seeded Roberts Wesleyan, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Roberts Field. The Lions improve to 10-4-5 on the campaign, while the Redhawks conclude its season 10-2-3.

How it Happened
  • The Redhawks looked to jump out to an early lead with a pair of chances in the fourth minute. A shot from Jessica Savage to the near post was denied by sophomore Abigail Smith and the follow up shot was saved by freshman goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz.
  • 11 minutes later, freshman Madison Keenan looked to put Molloy on the scoreboard, but her shot was sent left of target.
  • The home team would continue to test Muñoz in goal in the 15th minute, but the freshman would deny a shot from Ella White.
  • Roberts Wesleyan would not let up as they generated chances in the 18th and 24th minute, but Muñoz would stand strong in goal and make a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.
  • Molloy's final chance of the opening stanza came in the 37th minute, when graduate student Lauren Marienllo would take a shot that went high and left of target, sending the contest to halftime knotted at zero.
  • The Redhawks wasted no time to start the second stanza generating a chance 18 seconds in, but Muñoz was ready for it and made the save.
  • Marinello was able to put the first shot on goal of the contest for the Lions in the 52nd minute, but her shot was saved by Redhawks goalkeeper Nicolette Knauff.
  • Four minutes later, Marinello found graduate student Caitlin Kennedy streaking down the left side of the field. The Manhasset native cut into the 18-yard box and fired a shot that was saved, but Muro followed it with a shot that was blocked, got her own rebound, and headed it into the back of the net to put Molloy in front, 1-0.
  • The home team looked for the equalizer in the 70th minute with a shot, but Muñoz was in position to deny the chance to keep Molloy in front.
  • Roberts Wesleyan created its best scoring chance of the second half in the 76th minute. After winning a corner, the home team sent it into the box and fire a shot on goal to the far post that got past Muñoz, but ECC Defensive Player of the Year senior Sarah Tappeto was positioned perfectly to clear it off the line and keep Roberts Wesleyan off the scoreboard saving the tying goal.
  • The cardinal and white would not allow another shot on target for the remainder of the contest and go on and pull out the victory, 1-0.
