Williamsville, N.Y. – For the third time in four seasons, the fourth-seeded Molloy women's soccer team reigns as East Coast Conference Champions, topping second-seeded Daemen University, 2-0. Freshman goalkeeper
Elyse Muñoz was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, after collecting three consecutive shutouts and eight saves in the tournament. The cardinal and white improved to 11-4-5 and clinch a spot in the NCAA tournament.
How it Happened
- The first two chances of the afternoon came from the home team, but both shots in the second and 11th minute, did not make it on target.
- In the 16th minute, senior Sarah Tappeto sent a cross into the box and the ball was deflected into the net by a member of the Wildcats for an own goal, giving Molloy a 1-0 advantage.
- The Wildcats increased its pressure over the next 15 minutes of action, challenging Muñoz in goal with shots in the 29th and 30th minutes, but the freshman made a pair of saves to keep them off the scoreboard.
- Freshman Madison Keenan looked to add a second goal for Molloy in the 36th minute, but her shot was denied by Daemen goalkeeper Becca Schultz.
- Keenan generated one more chance in the 43rd minute, but her shot went wide right sending the game into halftime with Molloy in front, 1-0.
- 1:24 into the second half, Tappeto created space and fired a shot that was saved by the Daemen goalkeeper.
- Five minutes later, Tappeto cut into the right side of the box, sent in a cross and found the right foot of sophomore Olivia Ingenito who put it into the back of the net. The Lions led, 2-0, in the 52nd minute.
- Ingenito looked for her second goal of the contest in the 66th minute, but her shot rang off the post.
- The Wildcats would generate chances in the 74th and 82nd minute, but neither shot would make it on target as Molloy would go on and complete the shutout, 2-0.
